# Square Gift Card Management (Square ↔ Shopify)


|| The Square Gift Card feature allows merchants to sync and redeem digital gift cards between Square and Shopify. Gift cards created in Square are automatically listed in the app and synced with Shopify, ensuring that balances, redemption, and status remain consistent across platforms.

### __How Gift Cards Work (End-to-End Flow)__

1. A gift card is **created in Square**

2. The gift card is **synced** to our application ( Square Integration DPL )

3. And from our application it will synced to the Shopify.

4. Customers can **redeem the gift card** during checkout on:
* Shopify
* Square POS

5. The gift card balance is **reduced after use:**

### __Gift Card Page Overview__

The **Gift Card section** in the app displays **all gift cards created in Square**. Each gift card record shows:
* Gift card number
* Gift card type
* Gift card state (Active / Deactivated)
* Initial balance
* Current balance
* Linked customer (if available)
* Last redemption date

### __Partial Redemption Behavior__

1. Gift cards **support partial redemption.**
2. If the gift card amount exceeds the order total:
* Only the required amount is redeemed
* Remaining balance stays available
3. Gift cards remain usable until:
* Fully redeemed **or**
* Manually deactivated

### __Customer Linking Logic__

1. Gift cards are linked using the **customer email address.**
2. If the customer already exists in Shopify:
* The customer is automatically linked.
* Full customer details are displayed.
3. If the customer does not exist:
* Only the email address is shown

### __Gift Card Status Synchronization__

Gift card **status is fully synchronized** between platforms:
* If deactivated in **Shopify** → deactivated in **App & Square.**
* If deactivated in **Square** → deactivated in **App & Shopify.**

All gift cards created in **Square** appear in the **Gift Card** section of the app after installation.

Yes. Square gift cards can be redeemed on **both Square and Shopify**, and balances are automatically synchronized.

###### 4. Are partial gift card redemptions supported?
Yes. If the gift card balance is higher than the order total:
* Only the required amount is redeemed.
* The remaining balance stays available.

###### 5. What happens when a gift card is deactivated?
When a gift card is deactivated:
* It is disabled across **Square, Shopify, and the app.**
* The balance becomes **$0.**
* It cannot be redeemed again.

Yes, until the balance reaches **$0**. After full redemption or deactivation, it cannot be used again.

###### 7. Can I manually edit a gift card balance?
No. Manual balance adjustments are **not supported**. Balances update only through valid redemption or deactivation.
